Potassium permanganate is a strong oxidizing agent with the chemical formula KMnO₄. It is a deep purple crystal with a bluish metallic luster, odorless, and readily soluble in water and alkaline solutions, slightly soluble in methanol, acetone, and sulfuric acid. It is widely used as an oxidizing agent in chemical production. Potassium permanganate is one of the strongest oxidizing agents and is greatly affected by pH value. It has the strongest oxidizing ability in acidic solutions.
